Think and be like an angler: Subscribe to Current Flow State fly fishing
Weekly Updates every Monday, deep dives every other Friday, 100% free. Crafted with the contemplative angler in mind.
What makes a good fly fishing newsletter?
Fly fishing is a creative act. It's equal parts observation, problem-solving, and stylistic choice.
Current Flow State applies that same approach to what lands in your inbox. We're not here to sell you gear or tell you what to wear. We're more interested in how to think and be like an angler: How to move, see, and feel your way through the world.
Every Monday you'll get our Weekly Update, with short news items and ten fly fishing links to start your week off right.
Bi-weekly Friday editions offer beginner-friendly instruction, industry updates, meditations on the sport, and creative ideas from the wider outdoor world. All delivered with thoughtful consideration.
What readers say
The same thoughtful teaching approach that students appreciate in our classes comes through in every newsletter:
"My goal was to become comfortable as a beginner fly fisherman. Nick did that and more. Unlike previous learning experiences, I never felt intimidated."
— Andrew D., Intro to Fly Fishing graduate
"This course demystifies and breaks down fly fishing into manageable chunks that seamlessly build upon each other."
— Jason P., Intro to Fly Fishing graduate
"Nick is a pal, yes, but he's smart and loves fly angling. Moreover, he wants to share it all. So why not subscribe and give him a follow? You'll be glad you did."
— Trapper Creek, via Bluesky

What you'll learn
What topics does the Current Flow State newsletter cover?
We write about fly fishing techniques, gear, philosophy, conservation news, fly tying, seasonal strategies, and creative approaches to angling. There's a balance of both practical how-to's and contemplative essays on the practice of fly fishing.
Is this newsletter good for beginners?
Absolutely. Every issue includes beginner-friendly content adapted from our Intro to Fly Fishing class curriculum, covering casting techniques, fly selection, reading water, and building confidence on the river or lake.
How often will I hear from you?
You'll be getting a newsletter every Monday morning, like clockwork (unless I'm in the field somewhere). A couple times a month I'll also send something longer on Friday. You'll get a welcome series when you first sign up, and occasional updates about events and other special stuff.
Who's writing this, anyway?
I'm Nick Parish. I teach fly fishing, tie flies, chase wild trout in the Pacific Northwest, and think way too much about what makes this practice so compelling. Here's how I got into fly fishing.
