Ahoy! We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming with important news:
So far two brave and valiant folks like you have stepped up and become CFS Explorers this month. Real commitment. Real impact. Huzzah!
This is what individual commitment looks like.
We're looking for eight more Intro to Fly Fishing alums ready to say yes. Not to just read stories, but actively make a commitment in pushing their fly fishing—and this community's creative projects—forward.
When you step up as an Explorer:
- You join a select group of anglers who enable creative projects
- You get behind-the-scenes access other readers don't
- You have direct input on what gets explored next
- You become part of something bigger
This isn't for everyone. It's for individuals ready to make a commitment to growing as anglers.

We're on our way to meeting the mystery fish
For every new Explorer that joins in September, we'll unveil a new piece of the mystery fish. And that's two new slices revealed.
Once we've crossed the four-slice threshold, the first reader to email me and correctly identify the mystery fish species wins a special prize.
Your support will help us see more fish
Look, teaching fly fishing isn't my full time gig. Yet.
But it shouldn't be a financial outlay. Rods, reels, tippet, flies: all that stuff is provided to our fellow students free of charge. I wish there was a budget for it from the school. But, I'm the one that supplies it. And on my end, it adds up.
Proceeds from our Explorer memberships help keep the class going, with fresh tippet, flies, lines, and all the things we need. But as part of this month's Member Drive we have a special goal for a new piece of equipment.
If we reach our 10 Explorer goal, we'll buy a Photarium for use during our classes and events. Photariums are safe and secure ways for us to keep fish out of the water for a few minutes, to observe them without doing them undue harm.
The bigger picture: Your membership creates momentum for independent fly fishing education that prioritizes learning over selling.
